Abstract:
The high altitude research station Jungfraujoch (3580 m asl) is situated on a mountain saddle in the central Swiss Alps surrounded by the Jungfrau (4158 m asl) in the West and the Moench (4099 m asl) in the East. Due to its unique place, the year-round accessibility, and the excellent infrastructure, the Jungfraujoch research station is well suited for long-term ground-based monitoring of background free troposphere conditions and trend analyses. Due to its location in central Europe and its proximity to potential source regions it is also an appropriate study site for European regional source allocations during pollution events.
Sources and their location have been determined for Non-CO2 greenhouse gases in Europe. This approach has a potential to be used as independent validation for compliance with International agreements, such as the Protocols of Montreal and Kyoto.
