Abstract:
Summary of project:
A visitor survey to identify the demographics visiting the parks and attitudes of visitors. I will conduct questionnaires exploring demographics, attitudes and engagement. Surveys will capture data about age, gender and family status as well as questions to explore connections to nature. A scale (Strongly agree, Agree, Neither agree nor disagree, Disagree, Strongly disagree) will be used to measure responses so that the results can be analysed. There will be an adult and child version. Additionally I will investigate one issue on site as directed by staff e.g littering, dog waste. This will be an opportunity to learn from methods used in other areas which can be trialed in the Peak District. I hope to attend a volunteer work party or Junior Ranger camp at each protected area to gain an understanding of the site and users.
Leading questions:
How does the demographic of visitors and levels of engagement vary in different protected areas?
Does a persons childhood experience of nature impact their level of engagement in adult life?
Why do people visit parks?
Which methods can be used to encourage responsible visits and involvement with protected areas?
Which methods can be used to effectively engage harder to reach demographics such as young people?
