Specialties of José Ignacio Martínez:
I am very much interested in contributing to the understanding on how climate functions in the tropics at sub-millennial timescales for the Quaternary period with emphasis in the Holocene, and how ecosystems respond to transient climate change. A major focus of my research is the understanding of past history of ENSO in tropical America and adjacent seas. I study marine and continental sedimentary records using a number of paleobiological and geochemical proxies. Because of interactions between tectonics and climate, I am also interested in dynamical geomorphology of the northern Andes.
