    Specialties of Nicola La Porta:
At the present I am working as senior researcher at the Research Centre of Fundation Edmund Mach (850 employers), near Trento (Eastern Italian Alps). I am working at the Department of Agroecosystems Sustainability and Bioresources of FEM as leadear of the head of the Environmental Biotechnology Platform composed by 10 researchers and technicians. We carrying out studies on biological control of pathogenic fungi of wood decay and biotechnological researches on plants for pest resistance including biodiversity. I am also involved in studies on Biotic and abiotic physiological stresses on plants including pollen analysis, Ozone stress, cold stress. Other scientific activities are related to: the European Project "Integrated Monitoring Programme" (ICP IM) to monitoring the effect of air pollution on natural ecosystems in the framework UN-ECE "Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution Convention". I am also involved in the national forest monitoring survey programme called CONECOFOR. A collaboration with the University of Siena is dealing to study the results of a long term monitoring programme on about 1000 species of fungi; collaboration with the Universities of Helsinki, Copehagen and Florence is related on climate change and plant diseases. An other collaboration with the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute of Ås, Norway is focused on gene expression of trees both under temperature treatments and host-pathogen interation.
An other project focused on genomic biodiversity approach, is in collaboration with the University of Davis (California), and is dealing to the investigation of QTLs search on conifer genomes related to adaptation of climate change conditions. In addition I am carryng out a project of about * 400.000, as project leader, on Cypress breeding for cold climates in collaboration with University of Padua, University of Trento and CNR (National Research Council) of Florence. Also as project leader I am carring out a second project dealing with the study of "Genetic variability of Picea abies and detecting useful genes for disease resistance". Author and co-author of more than 280 scientific, technical and popular publications on national and international journals and magazines.
