    Specialties of Wouter Buytaert:
Buytaert's research activities deal with water resources management and environmental change, especially the impact of land use changes and climate change on hydrological processes and water supply. His work includes field research, mainly on hydrophysical soil properties, rainfall-runoff modelling, rainfall patterns, data assimilation and uncertainty analysis. His research focuses on tropical areas, with a particular interest in South American and African mountain regions.

Human impacts (land use changes, climate change) on water resources in tropical mountain regions. Predicting the effects of environmental change on water resources. Assessing the value of data in the abovementioned predictions.
